CANTON — West Forsyth qualified for its second consecutive trip to the Class AAA state playoffs with a 25-21, 25-20 win Thursday against Johnson in the Area 7-AAA tournament.

The Lady Wolverines then lost to North Hall 25-23, 25-13 to take the fourth seed. West also went to state last season as the No. 4 seed.

“We hope to be a little more successful this time around,” West Forsyth coach Meredith Phillips said.

The Lady Wolverines’ coach said the key to the win against Johnson was the play of middle hitters Jessica Feltracco and Jessica Lewis. “I thought they blocked well for us,” Phillips said.

Phillips added another key was scheduling matches up through Oct. 9 to keep her program active headed into the area tourney. She said most teams concluded play earlier that week.

Daniela Cavallo added four kills for West  and Kelsey Turchi had three kills versus Johnson. Against North Hall, Feltracco had three kills while Heidi Bonilla added four assists.
