OAKWOOD – One scoring spurt was the difference in West Forsyth’s 58-48 win against Chestatee in the first round of the Region 7-AAA tournament Tuesday at West Hall.

A Lamar Brooks 3-pointer with four-minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the third quarter gave the War Eagles a 26-25 lead, their first of the game.

The Wolverines responded with a 12-0 run to start a fourth quarter in which they outscored Chestatee 16-6.

Brooks was the lone scorer for the War Eagles in the third quarter; he hit two 3-pointers.

Lance Baker led the way for West Forsyth with 16 points. Kris Drees added 14 for the Wolverines and Fineto Lunguana had 11.

Chestatee mounted a fourth quarter comeback on the shooting of seniors Brandon Smith and Branden Jovaag, who combined to shoot 50 percent in the quarter.

It wasn’t enough, however, to make up for the 7-for-29 shooting effort of the previous three quarters.

“The bottom line is they played better than we did,” Chestatee coach Russ Triaga said.

“Give them credit, they’re well-coached, play hard and play the right way.”

Smith had a team-high 15 for Chestatee and Jovaag added 14.

West Forsyth moves on to play West Hall at 6 p.m. tonight in the region quarterfinals. Chestatee’s season is complete.
