Alexander Popp has been named as editor of the Dawson County News.
The announcement was made on Jan. 20 by Stephanie Woody, publisher of the Dawson County News and the Forsyth County News.
“We are excited to have someone of Alex’s caliber to lead Dawson County News,” Woody said. “Alex has proven himself as a strong journalist throughout his career. We look forward to him bringing those skills with him in his new position as editor of the Dawson County News.”
As editor, Popp will have oversight of all content of the Dawson County News, its various special sections, social media and the dawsonnews.com website.
Popp has a strong writing and reporting background, and previously served as the Crime and Courts Reporter for the Forsyth County News.
“I look forward to earning the trust and respect of the people of Dawsonville by continuing the tradition of honest, unbiased local journalism that the Dawson County News is known for,” Popp said.
Popp, 27, is a resident of Forsyth County and has lived all his life in north Georgia. Prior to beginning his career as a reporter, he hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine and attended the University of North Georgia.
“My goal is to tell your stories fairly, accurately and consistently,” Popp said. “Beyond being a local journalist, I hope to make myself a member of your community and welcome any feedback, comments or ideas on how we can improve. My door is always open.”
