One person was taken to the hospital with serious head
injuries around 11:30 a.m. Thursday after a white RAV4 SUV traveling east on
Kelly Mill Road and turning right onto Canton Highway struck three pedestrians
in the intersection’s crosswalk, according to officials at the scene.
“Witnesses say that [the pedestrians] had the crossing arrow to cross, and they were struck in the crosswalk,” said Deputy Chief Aletha Barrett of the Cumming Police Department.
Barrett said the female pedestrian was taken to North Fulton Hospital by ambulance with critical head injuries at 11:48 a.m. The two other struck pedestrians were uninjured, according to Barrett.
One witness at the scene, Chase Hornbaker, said that he was turning left onto Kelly Mill Road and saw the incident occur.
“They were crossing the street. I think they were going to breakfast, and then he just hit them and they all fell over,” he said
Barrett said that the incident is under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Unit due to the serious injuries of the female pedestrian.
Canton Highway eastbound is currently closed at Kelly Mill Road.
