ATLANTA (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch in northeast Georgia.
The weather service issued the watch Sunday for Forsyth and 16 other counties with the possibility of ice and freezing rain.
The other counties currently under watch include Forsyth’s neighboring counties of Cherokee, Dawson, Gwinnett and Hall.
Also covered are Banks, Barrow, Fannin, Gilmer, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Murray, Pickens, Towns, Union and White counties.
Meteorologist Carly Kovacik expects the winter storm watch to be upgraded to either a freezing rain or winter weather advisory abouot 4 p.m. Sunday.
Kovacik says the northeast part of the state could see about an inch of snow Monday, but is more likely to experience freezing rain.
Kovacik says the northern part of metro Atlanta could experience some light glaze of ice.
She predicts cold temperatures throughout Georgia, though they should warm up throughout Monday.
