FORSYTH COUNTY – Though snow and ice can still be seen glistening from treetops and lawns throughout the county, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to remain attentive and careful when traveling through the winter wonderland.

As of 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, deputies had responded to 533 calls for service, said Cpl. Pete Sabella, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Of those 533 calls, 54 were about motor vehicle crashes and 33 were calls to assist stranded motorists.

“None of the accidents were serious – just minor fender benders and spin-outs but no serious injuries,” Sabella said.

While all roads are currently open, depending on location, some are still icy and snowy, Sabella warned.

“Some are melting because they are receiving sun, but some are still snow-covered and icy,” he said. “Our biggest concern, though, is the temperature is supposed to get into teens tonight and the roads will refreeze.”

The sheriff’s office is asking residents to stay home unless there’s an emergency, Sabella said.

“If you don’t have to go out, please don’t – stay home and stay safe,” he said. “But, if you do, please use caution.”

Deputies will be driving throughout the county this afternoon and evening and will report any hazardous conditions to the county’s roads department and the Georgia Department of Transportation.
