FORSYTH COUNTY — Terry Smith, right, chairman of the Forsyth County Civil Service Board, presents retired dentist Avery Howell with an award honoring his 27 years of service to the appointed panel.

Howell, who joined the board in 1988, resigned his position earlier this year due to health problems.

Jerry Bowman has been tapped to fill the remainder of Howell’s term.

The ceremony took place during the board’s meeting Thursday morning.

The Forsyth County commission honored Howell later that night.
