Tossing a line under the shade of the Poole’s Mill covered bridge, James Watson hoped to snag a fish. His son and nephew gently paddled his new kayak along Settingdown Creek, as friends and families gathered last weekend in and along the water to enjoy the summer day.At the creek’s turn on the other side of the bridge, dozens of kids in swimsuits sat on the rocks smoothed by the river and slid down with a splash while their parents enjoyed the shade.Madison Cobb scooted along the paths to greet family and friends attending her 9th birthday party. The smell of charcoal wafted toward the bridge as Chris Hernandez grilled a lunch for his family at the park near their home they visit often on free days.Poole’s Mill Park at 7725 Poole’s Mill Road in Ball Ground is open during the day in spring, summer and early fall.
