A few years ago, two special events for local senior citizens were held on the same day.
The Forsyth County Senior Center didn’t want that to happen twice.
“What we’ve done is asked those planning senior activities in the area to meet and use that as a time to coordinate activities and learn from each other, and see what successes we have,” said Shelly Johnson, director of the senior center.
The collaboration, dubbed Partnering for Seniors, will be held Wednesday at the Hearthstone Lodge Community Center.
Any organization planning an event for senior citizens is invited to share and learn at the meeting.
Johnson said past meetings have prevented duplication of services and allowed newer organizers to get advice from those with experience.
In addition to senior center officials, participants have included representatives from local churches, assisted living facilities and nonprofit organizations.
“We have relearned the importance of coordination,” Johnson said. “Even if they’re in charge of activities or just looking for ideas, that’s why it’s there ... for learning from each other.”
