A person has been killed after a dump truck overturned while traveling northbound on Highway 9 on Friday, according to authorities.

The truck overturned shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 9 and Glover Drive. According to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Deputy Wendell DeJoie, the driver of the truck was trapped underneath the vehicle.

DeJoie stated that they believe the driver of the truck left the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and flipped the vehicle into an embankment. He confirmed that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hwy. 9 was closed for several hours at Majors Road to Bethelview Road while the wreck was investigated, but has since been reopened.  

This incident is under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office's Traffic Specialist Unit.
