Sawnee EMC is looking for high school juniors who want to visit the nation’s capitol.
According to a statement from the utility, two students are selected every year as its Washington Youth Tour delegates.
Those eligible must be between the ages of 16 and 18 and live in a residence served by Sawnee EMC or attend one of a number of high schools in the region, including Forsyth Central, North Forsyth, South Forsyth, West Forsyth and Pinecrest Academy.
The delegates will join about 100 other students chosen from other EMCs in the state on an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C.
During their weeklong visit they will meet delegates from across the country. Included in the trip is a tour of the capitol and meetings with state and national leaders.
Delegates will also receive leadership training and learn about history, government and careers in public service.
The tour is scheduled June 10-17. Those interested must submit an application and an essay.
The deadline for entries is Jan. 29. The top candidates will also go through an interview process.
Applications can be found in school guidance counselor offices or online at www.sawnee.com, under education.
