CUMMING — Forsyth County’s special education teacher of the year was announced Wednesday during a Cumming Civitan Club’s annual banquet.

The club named Colleen Neubert from Mashburn Elementary School as the top teacher in the district’s special education department, according to Ann Raines.

School Superintendent Jeff Bearden made the announcement in front of the club, which is an association of volunteer service groups that emphasize helping children and adults with developmental disabilities.

The other nominees for the award were: Erin Curry, Chestatee Elementary; Pam Majerus, Matt Elementary; Jessie Schares, Shiloh Point Elementary; and Mindy Sweat, Vickery Creek Middle.
