CUMMING — Authorities are searching for two suspects who reportedly shoplifted at least $1,000 of merchandise from the Cumming Walmart late Wednesday night.

Three men apparently ran out of an emergency exit and fled by car, according to Bryan Zimbardi, spokesman for the Cumming Police Department.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies were able to follow the vehicle and apprehend one suspect after the vehicle stopped in east Forsyth and the three men began to run off. The other two suspects remain at large.

According to Zimbardi, both suspects are black men about 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighing 150 pounds.

Security video footage from the retailer on Market Place Boulevard showed that one appeared to be in his 40s and another in his 20s.

Robin Regan, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said the two local law enforcement agencies, Gwinnett County’s K-9 unit and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter assisted in the search.

They concentrated their efforts in the area around Windermere Parkway and Old Atlanta and Trammel roads.

“From the initial investigation, there was nothing violent about the incident,” Regan said, “but we’re still taking precautions.”

Regan encouraged residents to be aware of their surroundings and to “keep an eye out” for suspicious activity. There will be extra patrols in the area.
