A man was found dead Friday at Tidwell Park on Lake Lanier, according to authorities.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said the report came in at 2:28 p.m. The body was discovered on a rocky beach near the park's boat ramp at the end of a peninsula by a person walking their dog. 

A gun was located at the scene near the man's body, authorities said, and a preliminary investigation suggests that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and the Forsyth County Coroner. 

Authorities are now attempting to contact the man's next of kin. 

Tidwell Park is closed while detectives with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the scene.
