EAST FORSYTH -- Authorities have confirmed that the body of an unknown person washed onto the shore of Sawnee Campground from Lake Lanier on Thursday night.

Units were dispatched about 6:30 p.m. from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which manages the area around Buford Dam.

The campground sits just north of the Chattahoochee River off Buford Dam Road.

The identity and gender of the deceased, whether the person drowned or any other circumstances have not been released as the investigation begins.
