Over half a century later, rumors still swirl around Dawson Forest and the mysterious remnants of Dawson County’s past in the Cold War. Local residents can still be heard whispering about two-headed deer and oak leaves the size of elephant ears spotted around the nuclear facility’s remains.

How hurricane devastation is helping to preserve the historic Sherrill House

The Sherrill House.
After a hurricane came through in 2023, Marcus Satterfield had four large Oak trees down on his property. An idea for the use of the felled oaks came through a suggestion by a friend and lifetime member of the Historical Society of Cumming/Forsyth. Tommy Russell suggested Satterfield cut the trees and make porch boards for the historic Sherrill House.
