The Dec. 31, 1964 edition of the Forsyth County News details what has been called “the deadliest day on Lake Lanier,” when seven out of 11 occupants in a vehicle, including five children, were killed in a crash on a bridge over Lake Lanier.
This Christmas while many in Forsyth County will be opening gifts and spending time with loved ones, some will be taking a moment to remember a tragedy that took the lives of seven people who were enjoying the holiday.

How hurricane devastation is helping to preserve the historic Sherrill House

The Sherrill House.
After a hurricane came through in 2023, Marcus Satterfield had four large Oak trees down on his property. An idea for the use of the felled oaks came through a suggestion by a friend and lifetime member of the Historical Society of Cumming/Forsyth. Tommy Russell suggested Satterfield cut the trees and make porch boards for the historic Sherrill House.
